Torre Guaceto MPA wants to widen its borders!

The Marine Protected Area of Torre Guaceto is engaged in a process of widening the boundaries of the protected area to include a large part of the marine Special Conservation Area.

The Marine Protected Area of Torre Guaceto is engaged in a process of widening the boundaries of the protected area to include a large part of the marine SAC IT9140005.

For this reason, in the framework of Interreg MED MPA NETWORKS, great attention is given to the artisanal fishing sector. Dolphin monitoring activities were carried out in the SAC in October, in collaboration with researchers from the Tethys Research Institute, to begin the assessment of the impact of fishing on marine mammal species. This activity achieved the involvement of artisanal fishermen active within the SAC, who, through a participatory planning activity, proposed the No Take zones in the MPA expansion areas to the managers. As part of this action, it was decided with the fishermen to stop fishing in the SAC for the month of November, to guarantee a recovery period for the fish stock.
